What should be considered about motherboards?

Motherboard Basics

The motherboard is like the brain or central nervous system of your computer. Your memory, processor, graphics card and more will all run off this board. Motherboards adhere to different form factors. These form factors determine size and shape, the number, type and placement of ports and connectors, placement of mount holes, etc. So when you choose the board it will help to shape the entire computer.

Make sure to choose the form factor motherboard that will support your desired processor. You also want to make sure that it can support the speed of the processor and your chosen RAM as well.

While there are many things that you can choose or customize, one thing that you cannot change once you choose a motherboard is the chipset. The chipsets are often referred to as logic circuits and determine what type of features the motherboard will provide you with. So when putting all the pieces together you want to make sure that these components share the characteristics you are looking for. It's like a dating game for computer parts.
